I am running again for another fabulous cause, Noah’s Light Foundation. I will be running the Disney Princess Half Marathon February 23rd. I am very excited to be running this race again. It was my first real race that I ever completed in 2011 soon after meeting one of the most inspirational women in my life. Cathy motivated me to cross that finish line as she has done so many times since. It is with the highest gratitude that I contribute to this beloved soul my determined path to health and happiness. I miss you, Cathy. Happy Birthday!
Many of you know the story of my dear friend Cathy who I first met in the ER and diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor. She was my patient briefly but my most amazing, inspirational friend for life.
I will be running the Disney Princess Half marathon at the end of this month for Noah’s Light Foundation. I truly believe Cathy led me to this amazing organization that is determined to put an end to childhood brain tumors. Read Noah’s story if you have a moment. This little hero lived right down the street from me. His mother has taken his death and has brought so much awareness and light to the disease.
I again was having a hard time motivating myself to make my page for donations. And then I realized why. I didn’t need to release it until today, February 6th, in honor of Cathy’s birthday. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do to celebrate such a beautiful life. Reminding you all and myself of her stunning soul and existence seemed about the most appropriate thing I could do. Plus I’ll be wearing her hot, sexy birthday boots that she gave me.
You see her 49th birthday was only a few weeks after I gave her the terminal diagnosis of having a glioblastoma multiform. She had her brain surgery and then she had a birthday party. She was kind enough to invite me to her celebration of life. The warm welcome from her family and friends was astounding. I sat on the couch with her chatting and laughing. Someone commented that they thought we were sisters. Another exclaimed that we must be lifelong friends the way we carried on. I think that was my third time even being around her but they were both right. She had always felt like a sister and a friend for a lifetime since the moment I met her.
Cathy and I had also something very much in common and that was our love of fabulous footwear. That day at her birthday party she had on a pair of the fiercest black leather boots that I had ever seen. As soon as I commented she took them off and told me to try them on. Drop-dead hotness is how I felt in those boots. Later as her disease progressed rapidly I went to visit her. When she opened the door I saw shoes everywhere. They were all for me. There were at least 30 pairs. She wanted me to enjoy them, as she no longer could because she was losing her balance. In the middle of all those fashionable shoes lay her birthday boots. And so I will wear them with gratitude in honor of her precious life on her birthday.
And I will run the Disney Princess Half Marathon in honor of Cathy’s memory. As always, thank you my dear family, friends, and associates for your support through donations and encouraging words. It means the world to me and has motivated me to keep training and running for a cause.
