Over four years ago, when I first entertained the idea of opening what I call my “soul home” in Oakland, Florida to the public, as a wellness center and boutique inn, I had already made the very difficult and painful decision to let her go. It was the adventurous spirit of Mrs. Grace Mather-Smith, the opera-singing bombshell who had hit Oakland in the 1920s, along with the many lava rocks that seemed to be thrown right at my head in synchronicities, which gave me the courage to follow my heart. So, I sadly said goodbye to my Florida safe haven, listed her for sale, and moved my entire life with my young daughter to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2016. Some called me crazy, others brave – but in my heart, I knew there was a much bigger purpose for the move. Soon the concept of Life & Death Wellness was born, and it has not only become my passion, but a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is doing so much good in my community in Hawaii and I dare say the world.
Never would I have imagined that listing my soul home for sale back then would bring the exact circumstances to create a place of peace, healing, wellness and creativity for two very special communities on opposite sides of the world. But that is exactly what happened and how the Oakland Manor House and Life & Death Wellness came to be.
Now I once again find myself in a place of surrender, so that another can continue to develop and grow this central Florida gem while I do the same in Hawaii.
Sometimes you really do have to let go for things to flourish. I am excited to meet the new owner, as there are many people now walking through the doors with interest and their own special talents. Please send love, prayers, and positive vibes that he or she will find their way to my soul home soon.
